May 3rd-16th 2010 : Texas becomes the backdrop for an international collective of artists, documentary filmmakers and new media explorers.
Texas by Light is an epic tour of Texas featuring the light painting of Marko93,interactive projection technology and Mehdi Idir's Urban production sensibilities.
Every Texas city has a unique, iconic Texas visual history. Texas by Light will use the visual archetypes of Texas and shift those identities into the future; an interactive visual future of our own making that combines the historical traditions of Texas, photography, performance and media technology to project a visually complex and emotionally compelling experience.
Texas by Light is part documentary, part cinema, part experimental and all about dynamically documenting light, human motion, and digital interaction.
Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Paris Texas are the scheduled shooting locations. And, as a sweet little cherry on top, Texas by Light will be filming during Houston’'s Art Car Parade.

Paris by Light is a collaboration between Mehdi Idir and internationally recognized light painter, graffiti artist and body painter Marko93.
Marko's light painting technique is a combination of martial arts movements and Calligraphy drawn with bursts of elegance. After over 20 years of graffiti and light painting there is a refined precision in his light art.
Marko's body is a brush. The spatially integrated precision of his strokes comes from a clear mental image, calligraphic muscle memory, and a low center of gravity.
Paris by Light was produced through Manifeste Productions and is a creative fusion of Marko's light painting and Mehdi's production talents.
Texas by Light is building on the demonstrated success of Mehdi and Marko's teamwork.
This is Mehdi Idir's 2010 Showreel
There is more to Mehdi's productions than slick graphics. Manifeste Productions specializes in niche, urban-cultural documentaries.
The distinct value of Manifeste's productions comes from a passion for the subject matter and a genuine commitment to the people involved. Mehdi's approach is a human one and his editorial gestures, while visually stunning, are grounded in the humanity of the subject.
Marko93 also works on interdisciplinary collaborative works with several other renowned artists in France through Urbn-Buzz.
This is from the Urbn-Buzz website: Mayakkam-Oxymore is an artistic collaboration between France and India that challenges the boundaries between art, technology and culture, in which new technologies and traditions meet, combining dance, painting and music.
There are three disciplines carried through by three artists: Sangeeta Isvaran, Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer, Cyrille Brissot computer musician and researcher at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordi- nation Acoustique/Musique), specialised in translating recorded gestures into music; and Marko-93 a graffiti artist pioneer in the development of light-painting in real time video.
This represents Marko's current work in a digital media collective as well as an example of some of the video technology that will be used in Texas by Light.
Marko-93 has always made his art with a sophisticated fusion of Urban and Contemporary Art. Marko has extremely strong roots in his community and utilizes the access he has to urban street life to channel his art through. When you examine Marko-93's images you will realize that rarely is he, or his art, the direct subject.
Marko generally uses his light painting as backdrop to portraits. The subject of Marko's art is the interaction he has between himself and the people or places in his images. As easy as it would be for his creative luminance to be a focus, it actually operates as a humble testament to the people he meets and places he explores.
Marko-93 has taken the classically urban-street art form of Graffiti and transformed it into a personal light calligraphy or "space Light Writing" as Man Ray described it. Marko uses a beautiful and abstract Arabic Calligraphy that is a personal, gestural interpretation. He carves his caps like calligraphers carve their calams to get upstrokes and down strokes. A style he calls Kalligraffism and that he is now famous for.
"Light-painting allows me to make new and artificial atmospheres by creating environments for urban sceneries, portraits, objects, and sometimes all three at once. " - Marko-93
As soon as he began working with the light painting technique, Marko realized the possibilities are endless. From both an artistic and technological point of view, he considers it to be the painting of the future.
Marko-93 is an artist who has always associated his art with collaborations and new encounters, whether it be for initiating novices or discovering new techniques. Marko loves to travel: Japan, Morocco, Egypt, Cambodia, China, Mongolia, and all around Europe... every place is an opportunity to meet other artists, with whom he shares, exchanges and creates.
Mehdi Idir is a founding member of Manifeste Productions. Mehdi began his career with a passion for video production and raw talent that he used to educate himself and produce his first music video in 2000.
Motivated by his success, and driven by his increasing involvement in the post production process, Mehdi received formal training in both cinematography and editing. His dedication and training came together with an explosive combination in 2004 with the release of "Wanted Posse", the story of the first World Championship Hip Hop competition in Paris. Wanted Posse is published and distributed by TF1 Video in France and has sold approximately 10, 000 copies.
Manifeste productions was born from this project and continues to provide video activities: concerts, dance contests, reports, advertisement videos, and short films.
Manifeste Productions currently works with clients including: TF1, Metro, Apple, Société Générale, EDF, Mexx, Breakin Magazine, Exposium, Visio-Presse, Sony-Ericsson, Kissman-Production, Red-Bull...etc..etc....
The same passion and commitment that started Mehdi on his career path has continued to push him into new and exciting directions. With the release of Paris by Light, Manifeste Productions demonstrated not only a powerful technical and creative talent, but the ability to genuinely redefine the potential of digital media production. Paris by Light has recieved nearly 500,000 views on YouTube.
